Pear Ginger Upside-Down Cake

A traditional cake, prepared in your Square Baker is a welcome dessert any time.  Tender, moist cake topped with lightly spiced pears will have family and friends asking for more.


  • 2 tbsp margarine, melted
  • 2 small pears, peeled and sliced
  • 3 tbsp packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2   egg whites, lightly beaten
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup hot water


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Drizzle melted margarine in Square Baker. Thinly slice pears with Utility Knife. Sprinkle brown sugar over margarine. Arrange pears in single layer over brown sugar. In Classic Batter Bowl, combine flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda and salt. Set aside. In Small Batter Bowl, whisk together molasses, oil, egg whites, and sugar with Stainless Whisk. Add water to molasses mixture; whisk until well blended. Stir molasses mixture into flour mixture; mix just until moistened. Pour batter over pears in Baker. Bake 25-30 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Using Oven Mitts, immediately invert cake onto large serving platter. Cool slightly. Serve warm.
