Soft-Serve Custard
Ingredients
- 2 cups (500 mL) whole milk
- 1 cup (250 mL) heavy cream
- ½ cup (125 mL) sugar
- 6 egg yolks
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) vanilla extract
Directions
- Combine the milk, heavy cream, and sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat. Remove from the heat.
- Whisk the egg yolks in a medium bowl. Slowly add 1 cup (250 mL) of the hot cream mixture to the egg yolks to temper the eggs. Then, slowly add it back into the hot cream mixture.
- Cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally for 5 minutes, or until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon and reaches 165°F (75°C).
- Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the vanilla extract and pour the mixture into a clean bowl. Cover and let the bowl chill in the refrigerator for about 2 hours, or until it's cool.
- Press the Power Button to turn on the FreezyFun Ultimate Frozen Drink & Soft-Serve Maker, select the soft serve setting, press START, and pour the mixture into the tank.
- Let the mixture churn until the machine reads "End."
- Dispense the soft serve into bowls or cones. Add your favorite toppings or sauces, if you'd like.

Cook's Tips:
You can make this soft serve more firm by dispensing it into an airtight container, adding a lid, and putting it in the freezer. Before serving, let it sit for 5–10 minutes for a creamy, cold treat.
