Ingredients

  • 2 cups (500 mL) whole milk
  • 1 cup (250 mL) heavy cream
  • ½ cup (125 mL) sugar
  • 6   egg yolks
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Combine the milk, heavy cream, and sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat. Remove from the heat.
  2. Whisk the egg yolks in a medium bowl. Slowly add 1 cup (250 mL) of the hot cream mixture to the egg yolks to temper the eggs. Then, slowly add it back into the hot cream mixture.
  3. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally for 5 minutes, or until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon and reaches 165°F (75°C).
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the vanilla extract and pour the mixture into a clean bowl. Cover and let the bowl chill in the refrigerator for about 2 hours, or until it's cool.
  5. Press the Power Button to turn on the FreezyFun Ultimate Frozen Drink & Soft-Serve Maker, select the soft serve setting, press START, and pour the mixture into the tank.
  6. Let the mixture churn until the machine reads "End."
  7. Dispense the soft serve into bowls or cones. Add your favorite toppings or sauces, if you'd like.

Cook's Tips:

You can make this soft serve more firm by dispensing it into an airtight container, adding a lid, and putting it in the freezer. Before serving, let it sit for 5–10 minutes for a creamy, cold treat.
