WARNING
- • Hot stoneware can cause burns if handled improperly; always use heat-resistant oven mitts or pads when handling hot stoneware or placing on surfaces.
- • Stoneware can break if bumped or dropped. If this occurs, use caution as broken pieces can be sharp and could cause injury. Do not use chipped or damaged stoneware.
- • Stoneware should not touch the sides of the oven or the oven door when closed.
SAFEGUARDS
- • At least two-thirds of the surface should be covered with food to avoid breakage. Evenly distribute food over the stone and avoid clustering.
- • Avoid extreme temperature changes. Let stoneware cool to room temperature before adding liquid or cleaning.
- • Always place stoneware on hot pads or trivets to avoid damage to countertops and tables. Do not place directly on a cool surface.
- • Stoneware may scratch surfaces; place a protective barrier between the stoneware and the surface.
- • Stoneware is not grill-safe or broiler-safe.
- • Do not pre-heat the stone.
CLEANING
- • Wash before first use; dishwasher-safe. Allow the stone to fully cool before dishwashing.
- • To deep clean: Prepare a baking soda paste by mixing 1/2 cup (125 mL) of baking soda with 3 tbsp (45 mL) water. Apply to desired areas and let stand for 15–20 minutes. Wipe off excess paste with a nonabrasive sponge or cloth, rinse thoroughly, and towel dry.
USE AND CARE
- • Prior to baking, wipe away food and oil residue on glazed surfaces with a paper towel to prevent buildup on the pan.
- • Stoneware will naturally season and develop a nonstick surface over time with use. Dishwashing will lengthen the amount of time to develop seasoning.
- • Slight sticking may occur for the first several uses. For the best results, bake high-fat foods (e.g., refrigerated biscuits) or lightly brush with cooking oil for the first several uses. Aerosol nonstick spray is not recommended; it will create a sticky residue which is difficult to clean.
- • Stoneware can be used in conventional and convection ovens, microwave, refrigerator, and is freezer-safe.
- • Always thaw dense foods like frozen chicken breasts, pot pies, roasts or chops in the refrigerator prior to cooking on your stone.
- • Stones are heat-safe up to 500°F (260°C). Food must be 5 inches (13 cm) away from the heat source.
- • Nylon, silicone, bamboo, wood, or metal utensils may be used. Metal utensils may mar glazed surfaces. Use a non-bleach, all-purpose liquid or powdered cleanser that’s safe for glazed surfaces in the kitchen to remove marring.
