Deliciously Golden Applesauce

Count this easy, homemade applesauce as your apple for the day. It's the perfect complement to Toasty Breakfast Pockets or French Toast Dippers.

Ingredients

  • 12 medium golden delicious apples (about 4 lbs/1.8 kg)
  • 2 cups (500 mL) apple juice
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) lemon juice

Directions

  1. Peel the apples then core and slice using the Apple Wedger.
  2. Place the apples, apple juice and lemon juice in 3-qt. (2.8-L) Stainless Steel Sauce Pan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to medium and cook 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove the pan from heat Using Mix ‘N Chop, carefully mash apple mixture until it is as smooth as you like it.
  4. Let the applesauce cool to room temperature. Spoon into air-tight container and store in refrigerator.

Yield:

  • 6 cups (1.4 L)
    12  servings of 1/2 cup (125 mL)

Approximately 90 calories and 0 grams of fat 

Cook's Tips:

For cinnamon-flavored applesauce, sprinkle each serving with ground cinnamon or combine 1 tablespoon sugar and 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon in Powdered Sugar Shaker and sprinkle over applesauce.
