Turn a boxed cake mix into a festive dreidel cake with colorful frosting and sprinkles for an easy Hanukkah dessert everyone will love.
Ingredients
- Oil for greasing
- 1 pkg (15.25 oz./432 g) cake mix, any flavor
- Ingredients to make boxed cake mix
- 3-4 cups (725 mL–1 L) white prepared frosting, divided
- Blue food coloring
- Gold sprinkles
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease the Tree-Shaped Cake Pan with oil.
- Prepare the cake mix according to package directions.
- Pour the cake batter into the pan. Bake according to the package directions for a 9" x 13" (23-cm x 33-cm) cake, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove to a cooling rack to cool completely. Trim the side corners of the cake to make a dreidel shape.
- Add a few drops of food coloring to half of the frosting to make a light blue color. Dye the remaining frosting a darker blue color.
- Using a spatula or spreader, cover the cake with the light blue frosting.
- Using a piping bag fitted with a round tip, pipe a border around the cake with the darker blue frosting. Add decorations to the center, if you'd like.
- Using a piping bag fitted with a star tip, pipe a shell border along the base of the cake. Decorate with gold sprinkles.
