Signature Nonstick Grill Pan Use and Care

• Wash before using for the first time; dishwasher-safe. Place detachable handle (if applicable) in utensil basket. The exterior base plate will darken after dishwashing, and a slight gray residue may form. This is normal and will not impact performance of the cookware.
• Thoroughly clean cookware after every use.
• Do not use oven cleaners, steel wool, steel scouring pads, harsh detergents, or detergents containing chlorine bleach.
• To deep clean:
  • To remove stubborn spots, soak in hot, soapy water and wash by hand. You can use a nonabrasive sponge or cloth to clean the exterior and interior surfaces.
  • For tougher food buildup or occasional deep cleaning, prepare a baking soda paste by mixing ½ cup (125 mL) of baking soda with 3 tbsp (45 mL) of water. Apply to the desired areas and let it stand for 15–20 minutes. Wipe off excess paste, rinse thoroughly, and towel dry.
  • To remove mineral buildup, wipe the interior clean with a nonabrasive sponge or a cloth dipped in distilled white vinegar. Rinse and hand wash with hot, soapy water.
  • To maintain a clean and shiny lid, periodically clean with a cloth dampened with vinegar or lemon juice. Rinse and dry completely.

• Storing: To help reduce scratches on interior and exterior coatings, place paper, soft cloth towels, or cookware protectors between pans when storing.
• Removable handle (if applicable):
  • Handle detaches for easy cleaning, storage, and oven-use.
  • Use caution when attaching and detaching handle, and when inserting or removing cookware from the oven. If needed, use an oven mitt or grip with the opposite hand to hold the pan in place while attaching or detaching the handle.
  • Handle is NOT oven-safe. Placing the handle into a hot oven will cause damage and void the guarantee.
  • If the handle is warm to the touch under the button area after prolonged use on stovetop, allow several minutes for the handle to cool before removing.
   
• To attach the handle:

1. Push the small inset button inward with your thumb.
2. While holding in the small inset button, slide the large button toward you.
3. While holding both buttons, slide the handle onto the stem of the pan at a slight angle.
4. Release the buttons once the handle is flush to the pan.

• To detach the handle:

1. Push the small inset button inward with your thumb.
2. While holding in the small inset button, slide the large button toward you.
3. While holding both buttons, lift the handle up and away.

COOKING

• Stovetop use: Cookware may be used on a glass or ceramic cooktop, electric coil, or gas burner ranges.
• Do not use on induction cooktops. Exterior surfaces of cookware and glass top and ceramic cooking surfaces should be clean and free of food residue before heating. Consult your stove manufacturer’s instructions for more details.
  • Select a burner size that matches the diameter of the cookware base. For gas stoves, flames should not extend beyond base of cookware.
  • Cookware is intended to be used on low and medium heat settings and medium-high heat for short intervals. Prolonged use at higher heat settings will void the guarantee.
  • Low heat: Simmering liquids, warming food, and preparing delicate sauces
  • Medium heat: Preheating, sautéing, searing, frying, and stir-frying
  • High heat: Boiling and reducing liquids only
  •  Preheating of pans should not exceed 3–5 minutes.
  • Never leave an empty pan with the burner on as it could lead to warping or damage of the nonstick coating, which will void the guarantee.
• Oven use: Cookware is oven-safe to 480°F (250°C). Lids are oven-safe to 400°F (200°C). Detachable handle is NOT oven-safe.
• Broiler use: Never place this product under the broiler. The nonstick coating and handles will be severely damaged, voiding the guarantee.
• Microwave and outdoor grill use: Not microwave- or outdoor grill-safe.
• Nonstick sprays and oils: Do not use nonstick sprays on the cookware as they cause an invisible buildup and impair the nonstick coating performance. Do not overheat oil, butter, or shortening. This will create a sticky residue that will affect the release of the nonstick and result in a reduced life of the coating.
• Utensils: Nylon, silicone, wooden, or metal utensils (with the exception of sharp knives) may be used. Metal utensils may cause some surface scratches on the coating. This is normal and will not affect the performance of the cookware.
• Sliding pans: Avoid sliding or dragging cookware over the surface of your stovetop, especially glass top ranges, as scratches to the cookware are deemed to be normal wear and tear and thus are not covered by the guarantee.
• Lid (if applicable): When removing a hot lid, lift the lid toward you, allowing the steam to escape away from your body. Always use a heat-resistant oven mitt or pad when removing pans and/or lids from the oven or stovetop.

SAFEGUARDS

• Steam and splatter: Keep children away from the stove while cooking. Be careful around the stove as heat, steam, and splatter can cause burns.
• Unattended cooking: Never allow cookware to boil dry or leave an empty pan on a hot burner as the pan can get extremely hot. This could lead to warping or damage of the nonstick coating, which will void the guarantee.
• Fumes: Do not overheat your nonstick pan as smoke or fumes from burning foods, oils, and the nonstick coating itself can be hazardous to the respiratory system of pet birds.
• Gas flames: Gas flames should not extend up the sides of the pan. This will damage the exterior of the pan and handle, voiding the guarantee.
• Hot handles: Always use a heat-resistant oven mitt or pad when handling hot handles. Use caution when attaching and detaching the handle when inserting or removing the cookware from the oven. If needed, use an oven mitt or grip with the opposite hand to hold the pan in place while attaching or detaching the handle.
• Cooktop surfaces: For use on flat glass or ceramic cooktop surfaces, consult the appliance manufacturer’s instruction manual before using for the first time.

CLEANING

• • Wash before using for the first time; hand wash only and hand dry thoroughly.
• • To clean:
  • 1. Wash by hand with a nylon scrub brush and hot water. If needed, use a pan scraper to remove stuck-on bits. For stickier foods, simmer a little water in a cast iron pan and place press in. Then, use the scraper after the press has cooled.
  • 2. Dry with a lint-free cloth or paper towel. You can prevent rusting by drying the press thoroughly.
  • 3. While the press is warm, rub it with a very light layer of cooking oil. This will prevent stickiness and let the seasoning build over time.
  • 4. Hang or store in a dry place.
• • To Remove Rust:
  • 1. Scour the affected area with steel wool.
  • 2. Rinse, hand dry, and rub it with cooking oil.
  • 3. Re-season the press by heating it up.
  • 4. If rust continues, re-season your press.
• • As you clean, you may notice some dark residue on your cloth or paper towel. This is perfectly normal and safe—it’s just seasoning (baked-on cooking oil) responding to foods that may be slightly acidic or alkaline. The residue will disappear with regular use and care.
• • Soap isn’t always necessary when cleaning the press. If you like, you can use some dishwashing liquid.
• • Do not place in dishwasher or use metal scouring pads, which can harm the seasoning.

TO USE

• • Cook With Any Combination: The press is heat-safe up to 650°F (340°C). The seasoning will start to break down at sustained temperatures around 650°F (340°C).
• • Stovetop Use: Do not slide, spin, or drag the press over the surface of your stovetop, especially glass top ranges, as scratches may result and are not covered by the product guarantee.
• • Seasoning Tips: While the press comes preseasoned, the best way to maintain the seasoning is to use your press.
  • • You can keep your press in great condition by regularly cooking with it and lightly coating it in cooking oil.
  • • Seasoning, which is oil baked onto the cast iron, gives it a natural, easy-release finish.
  • • You can use any food-safe shortening or cooking oil like vegetable or canola oil.
  • • If your press becomes dull, gray, splotchy, or rusted, you should re-season it.
  • • Foods that are acidic (i.e. beans, tomatoes, citrus, etc.) shouldn’t be cooked in seasoned cast iron until the press is highly seasoned. The high acidity in these foods will strip the seasoning and result in press discoloration and metallic-tasting food. Wait until the press is seasoned to cook these kinds of foods.
  • • Note: This also applies to boiling, which can break down seasoning.
  • • If the surface of your press becomes sticky, excess oil is building up and not fully converting to seasoning.
  • • You can fix it by placing the press in the oven on the top rack and baking it at 450°F (230°C) for 1 hour.
  • • Let the press cool and repeat if necessary.

HOW TO USE THE CAST IRON PRESS

• 1. Brush or spray underside of Grill Press with cooking oil prior to use. Press does not require preheating.
• 2. For best results, preheat cookware following manufacturer’s guidelines. Brush food or pan with melted butter or cooking oil.
• 3. Add food to pan and place Grill Press on food. Press down lightly to secure. Evenly distribute weight of press across food to preventing tipping. Note: To minimize chipping, Grill Press should not have contact with side walls of pan. Choose an appropriately sized pan.
• 4. Food should be turned half-way through cook time. Using protective oven mitt or pad, lift press. Turn food, reposition press and complete cooking.
• 5. Allow press to cool on heat-resistant surface before cleaning.
