Basic Vinaigrette & Variations

This simple vinaigrette is delicious on its own, but it’s also a great starting point for light, flavorful homemade dressings.

Ingredients

    Basic Vinaigrette
  • 6 tbsp (90 mL) olive oil
  • 4 tbsp (50 mL) white wine vinegar
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) water
  • ¼ tsp (1 mL) salt
  • ⅛ tsp (0.5 mL) ground black pepper
Variations Ingredients
Asian Vinaigrette
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) Basic Vinaigrette
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tsp (10 mL) honey
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) sesame seeds (optional)
  • ¼ tsp (1 mL) ground ginger
  • 1 small garlic clove, pressed
Dijon Vinaigrette
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) Basic Vinaigrette
  • ½ tbsp (7 mL) plain Greek yogurt or sour cream
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) Dijon mustard
  • ½ tsp (1 mL) lemon juice
  • 1 small clove garlic, pressed
Greek Vinaigrette
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) Basic Vinaigrette
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) lemon juice (about ½ a lemon)
  • 1 small garlic clove, pressed
  • ¼ tsp (1 mL) dried oregano
Barbecue Lime Vinaigrette
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) Basic Vinaigrette
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) lime juice (about ½ a lime)
  • 2 tsp (10 mL) barbecue sauce
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) plain Greek yogurt or sour cream
Cinnamon-Honey Vinaigrette
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) Basic Vinaigrette
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) honey
  • ¼ orange, juiced
  • ¼ tsp (0.5 mL) ground cinnamon

Directions

  1. Add the oil, vinegar, water, salt, and pepper to the Measure, Mix & Pour®; mix until blended.

Cook's Tips:

Adding water to the dressing decreases its acidity, which balances out the flavor.
